Life in the Fast Lane

Do you remember when things were slower?

I don't consider myself that old (yet), but things seem to be moving so very fast these days. And I think in someways, too fast.

On an average day, it used to be you would set out with a few things to get accomplished, whether at home or at work. It would be a good day if that was what you got done. Now it seems that there is so much more to get accomplished in less time that there used to be. Maybe this is because we are doing so much more in a day than we used to; maybe it is because we have to get more done than we used to, I'm not sure.

We need to take a breath, and appreciate the moments surrounding ourselves as they happen. Just because something is happening in another part of the world doesn't mean we have to know the second it happens. Obviously, if there is something happening that is going to immediately and directly affect us, yes, it is amazing that we can know right away. But for the most part, that piece of news will still be there after we have had a family dinner, or gone to the park, played with the kids, or the dogs, or just sat and read a book. We need to notice the sun when it is shining, or how green the grass is after a shower. Talk to someone in front of you instead of someone who is sending you a text. Appreciate the fact that while you may not be having the best day ever, you are having a good day.

One of the things I enjoy the most after being out of the house for the day is turning onto my road, and slowing down. Noticing that I live in a beautiful part of the country. Enjoying the sight of the corn growing high in the field to the West, and the green clover in the field to the East. Being excited as I get closer to my home, where love is, and laughter awaits.

Hug your kids, your spouse, your friends, your dog, or even your neighbour!

Love & Laughter,

Diane
